I arranged a 10 day trip to Northwest Yunnan with the Lashihai Xintuo Ecotourism Company a few weeks before I was due to depart. Within a couple of email exchanges an itinerary was tailor made to my requirements.The employee and community-owned Lashihai Xintuo Ecotourism Company is supported by The Nature Conservancy. Furthermore with 10% of its profit given to a conservation and community development fund.
My customized ecotourism holiday was organized to include hiking in the Lashihai Wenhai Watershed Nature Reserve, lesurely strolls around the old towns of Lijiang and Zhongdian (Shangri-La), and hiking in the Three Parallel Rivers National Park. The latter is a World Heritage Site that protects the spectacular gorges of the Jinsha (Yangtze), Nu Jiang (Salween) and Lancang (Mekong).
The trip exceeded expectations thanks to the attentive customer service and the efficient organizational skills of the local Naxi guide, who spoke fluent English. If you are looking for an adventure holiday off the beaten track in one of the most beautiful parts of China, you now know where to go.
